Last Friday was a time to remember those who passed away.

Thank you to everyone that made last Friday night so special. We had a great evening with lots of good memories. We appreciate the understanding of the band Byrds and Crow as there were so many people to “remember!” We miss all of those that have been such a big part of our community and we hope to see everyone come out again real soon.

The band to play this week is Split Rail. When you see the Split Rail show you will get a dose of several types of Bluegrass music that is sure to please, no matter what your preference in bluegrass is.

The music starts at 7 p.m. and will go until 9 p.m.

Our Friday night dinners are something special. Home cooking at its best is served from 6 to 7 p.m. and this week it will be: chicken penne pasta, garlic bread, watermelon, salad, home made dessert of choice, iced tea, coffee or lemonade. All for just $13 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under and free for children under 3 years old. Soft drinks are $1.

It is time for everyone to come to Lake Toxaway Community Center to enjoy our wonderful music, great food and a general good time. We hope to see you this Friday and every Friday until late October.

June 24 Wild River; July 1 The War Cry Band; July 8 High Top Mountain Harmony; July 15 Cane Creek Bluegrass.

We are a big area for camping and Lake Toxaway Fire and Rescue wants your family to be safe during your next camping trip.

Robert A. Cooper, MPA, NREMT-P, Firefighter/Paramedic/CFO of Lake Toxaway Fire Rescue provides the following guidelines to stay safe:

Teach children that their actions while camping effect not only their safety but also the safety of the forest and the animals who live there.

Make sure you are at a site that allows campfires.

Make sure there are no burn bans and it’s not too windy.

Dig a pit away from overhanging branches. Circle the pit with rocks.

Clear a 10-foot area around the pit down to the dirt, removing anything that could catch on fire.

Stack extra wood upwind and away from fire. After lighting, throw the match into the fire.

Never leave a campfire unattended; an adult should supervise the campfire at all times.

Keep a bucket of water and shovel nearby.

Never put anything but wood into the fire.

Do not pull sticks out of the fire.

Do not sit on the fire ring or rocks around the campfire. They will heat up quickly and they’ll stay hot for a long time.

When it’s time to put the fire out, dump lots of water on it, stir it with a shovel, then dump more water on it. Make sure it is cold before leaving the campsite. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave!

A Big Flea Market July 2

We have had lots of donations of furniture, household goods, books and all kinds of wonderful treasures and we are ready to sell sell sell! So mark your calendars for Saturday July 2, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and come up to Lake Toxaway Community Center to the metal building behind the big building and be ready to buy buy buy!

Riverbend First Annual Craft Sale

The same day as the Flea Market there will be a craft sale presented by the folks at The Riverbend RV Park. They have been working on beautiful handmade items so make sure you visit the small building on Saturday, July 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come ready to do some early Christmas shopping.

Be careful, bears are busy in Lake Toxaway

Bears are all over our area but we are known to have quite a few in the Lake Toxaway area. There have been quite a few times momma and baby bear have been visiting houses in and around our community. There was also some mention about bears opening car doors in search of food in cars and trucks. In some cases, it was not much more than a pack of gum they were after, so remember to take everything out of your vehicle in the way of food as they can make quite a mess.

The Lake Toxaway Quilt Group will meet at the small building. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 28. Our meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Contact us via our email at LTCommu nityCenter@gmail.com or through our Lake Toxaway Community Center Facebook page.

We so appreciate the generous grant from Toxaway Charities which we have been able to purchase the generator for our small building. This will be most helpful during difficult times when the power goes out in our buildings.

Lake Toxaway Monthly Meeting Tuesday, July 8

All meetings are held in the small building at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings. Monthly board meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month.

Our buildings are open and ready to be rented

Make your plans to rent our buildings now. The little building is beautiful and a perfect venue for small gatherings. It has a new fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, new flooring, new windows, handicap accessible, etc... A perfect location for baby showers, anniversary parties, meetings and all types of gatherings of approximately less than 60 people (depending on the set up).

If you have any questions send us an email at LTCommunityCenter@gmail.com, visit our website at www.toxawaycc.com or our email address and look for us on Facebook.
